Have you noticed how terribly hard it can be to get back to writing after an absence?
It is all very well when things go well, when one smooth writing session is followed by another.
What happens when there is an illness in the family; or another kind of crisis, or things are just so demanding that you haven’t written for a while?
The guilt and desperation pile up, and delay you even more.
My solution is to go back to where I was; and the only commitment I make is to read my previous work.
Almost by osmosis, the mood I was in when I wrote that work is recreated; I start fiddling here and correcting there, and sometimes the writing just gets going.
It is a simple thing; but if you and your computer are on the verge of a divorce: make one promise to yourself: sit and JUST READ YOUR WORK!!
I am going to: NOW!
